Ben Godfrey takes step towards completing Everton transfer

Ben Godfrey is undergoing his medical with Everton ahead of his £25m move from Norwich City.

The 22-year-old defender was granted permission to miss training with the Canaries today and their manager Daniel Farke has confirmed he will not be involved in their game with Derby County tomorrow lunchtime.

Everton have moved quickly to secure the signing of defender Godfrey and have beaten off competition from clubs including Bayer Leverkusen, Newcastle and Rennes.

Godfrey is expected to put pen to paper on a five-year-deal once he passes his medical and finalises personal terms.

The Blues had been focused on signing a centre-back on loan in the final few weeks of the window but Godfrey's availability forced the club into a re-think and talks were opened with the relegated Canaries earlier this week.

Godfrey will join Niels Nkounkou, Allan, James Rodriguez and Abdoulaye Doucoure as signings made by the club in this window.

Everton whittled down their list of centre-half targets to Godfrey, Fikayo Tomori and Jean-Clair Todibo but the Norwich man was the club's primary target.
