Ben Godfrey names 'top class' Everton team-mate who is 'flying' and outlines next aim

Ben Godfrey has admitted he is enjoying playing alongside 'top-class' Michael Keane at centre-back.

Godfrey joined Everton in a £20m deadline day move in October and quickly become a regular across the back-line under Carlo Ancelotti.

After being used in both full-back positions, Godfrey has played next to Keane for consecutive matches following an injury to Yerry Mina and recorded clean sheets in victories over Southampton and West Bromwich Albion respectively this week.

Godfrey said: “I’ve played in a few positions and I keep saying it, it doesn’t matter where I play, I’ll give it everything I’ve got.

“Of course, it’s always nice to play in my so-called preferred position [at centre-back].

“It’s always good playing next to Keano. He’s a top-class centre-back and he’s flying at the moment. I’m really enjoying it.”

Everton are fifth in the Premier League - one point behind Chelsea with a game-in-hand - and face the Londoners at Stamford Bridge on Monday.

With a chance to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2005 at stake, Godfrey remains confident.

He added: “The belief has always been there in this group. There are still plenty of games to go and to pick up points in.

"There are plenty more jobs to be done.”
