SILVERCHAIR drummer Ben Gillies is gearing up to release his first new music since 2012. On Tuesday the 40-year-old Novocastrian posted the news on Instagram, urging followers to pre-save his track, Breathe In Breathe Out. Gillies has been working with Maitland-bred producer Jordan Power (Xavier Rudd, Kasey Chambers) at his Inky Studio in Byron Bay since 2016.
Last week Gillies appeared on The Peer Pleasure Podcast hosted by Dewey Halpaus from US emo band Anatomy Of A Ghost. Gillies told Halpaus he initially lost confidence in his songwriting following the break up of Silverchair in 2011.
"I feel like it's a lot more focused and a lot more me," he said. "I've got my confidence back and I'm really happy. I'm in a good place musically."
