Ben Garner starts to reshape Bristol Rovers squad with loan striker set to depart

Ben Garner has begun to reshape his Bristol Rovers squad, with loan striker Victor Adeboyejo set to leave the club.

Adeboyejo joined the club on a season-long loan from Barnsley in August, but Bristol Live understands this deal will be cut short this month.

It will see the 21-year-old return to his parent club as Garner looks to inject more of a threat into an attack that has relied heavily on Jonson Clarke-Harris' goals so far this season.

Adeboyejo has featured regularly for Rovers this season, making 27 appearances in all competitions.

Yet the majority of these have been from the bench, with the former Leyton Orient striker making just six starts in League One this season.

He has netted just twice for Rovers, once in the EFL Trophy against Chelsea under-21s and once in League One against Rochdale.

The departure will see Garner begin to reshape the Rovers squad he inherited from Graham Coughlan as he looks to make forays into the transfer market.

Adeboyejo's exit will create space for another striker in the squad, although the Gas are also set to welcome back Gavin Reilly, who will return from a loan at Cheltenham Town this weekend.

Garner has already said he intends to strengthen his squad in January following a winless start to his reign as Rovers boss.

Following a 3-0 defeat to MK Dons on New Year's Day, Garner said it was imperative to add more depth to his squad.

He said: "The sooner we can get those players in the building, the better, because we need competition for places and I want to change the dynamic of the team and how we play, and I need those players in to be able to do that and the time to be able to work and do it."
