Ben Garner explains why goalkeeper Alexis Andre Jr has been handed new Bristol Rovers contract

Alexis Andre Jr has signed a one-year contract extension with Bristol Rovers, the club announced on Friday.

The French-born goalkeeper becomes the fourth player to pen a new deal with Rovers this summer, following Michael Kelly, Rollin Menayese and Camerson Hargreaves extending their stay at the Mem.

The 23-year-old Moroccan crossed the channel as a teenager in 2017 and earned a contract with the Gas after a trial.

He has made one senior appearance for the Gas since, coming on as a sub to replace sent off Sam Slocombe in a 2-1 over Walsall in 2017.

Much of his time with Rovers has been spent between the sticks for the club’s under-23 side, and this season he was third choice in the first team behind Anssi Jaakkola and Jordi van Stappershoef.

Andre Jr also spent time on loan at Salisbury City, of the Southern League, this season.

"I'm very happy that Alexis has signed a new deal as we feel that he's a goalkeeper with the potential to improve further in the future,” Rovers boss Ben Garner said.

"Alexis has great enthusiasm and the drive to learn and we want that here at Rovers. Alongside Anssi and Jordi he gives us good depth and competition in the goalkeeper position under the guidance of Adrian Tucker.”
