Ben Foster has highlighted a "little bit of needle" between Soccer Aid opponents Noah Beck and Tom Grennan.
Grennan is playing for England whilst Grennan is representing the World XI and the pair have been involved in several physical exchanges on the Old Trafford pitch. They ongoing tussle has not gone unnoticed with Foster, who is the World XI's No 1 on Sunday night, pointing it out.
The Wrexham goalkeeper is mic'd up and was chatting to the commentary team when he expressed his delight at the entertainment in front of him - particularly between the English singer and the TikTok star.
He said on ITV's coverage: “There has been a little bit of needle between Noah Beck and Tom Grennan, I am loving watching that.”
Both Beck and Grennan had professional ambitions before going on to excel in other areas of life. Beck played in last year's Soccer Aid and his display was labelled as "impressive" by David Beckham. He played for MLS side Real Salt Lake's academy and attended the University of Portland on a football scholarship where he represented Portland Pilots, but a career never materialised.
"Unfortunately, yet fortunately, things happened," he told Boardroom last year about his football hopes. "But somehow I always knew no matter what I did in my life, I always wanted to stay in touch with the game. … People who really know me know that I played soccer, knew that I grew up in the system and knew it was my goal since I was a kid to go pro."
Beck meanwhile was on the books of Premier League new boys Luton. He had dreams of going pro but went on to reject a scholarship in America to pursue his musical ambitions.
"I played from the moment I could walk and played for Bedford Town where I'm from and then I ended up playing for Luton Town and played for Northampton and Stevenage," Grennan said in an appearance on the Chris Evans Breakfast Show in 2021. "I was playing for the academies and then got dropped, and then I just didn't get better.
"Then I was going to go to America and play because I got offered a scholarship to go out there when I was about 17, 18. Then I was like, this isn't for me. I felt like, this is a bit long. I didn't want to leave my mum to be honest."
