Ben Foster's damning assessment of Liverpool's misfiring forwards in Watford defeat

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster says he "never felt threatened" by Liverpool's forward line during the Hornets' weekend win over the Reds.

Nigel Pearson's side became the first team to beat Liverpool in the Premier League since Manchester City on January 3 last year, as the Reds' 44-match unbeaten run came to a remarkable end in a 3-0 defeat.

Liverpool remain 22 points clear at the top of the table and look destined to end their 30-year top-flight title drought in the coming weeks, with just four more wins needed to seal the trophy.

But they were well below par at Vicarage Road, registering just one shot in target compared to Watford's five.

Substitute Adam Lallana clipped the outside of the post with an effort from distance, but none of Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah or Sadio Mane looked at their best as the Reds were well beaten.

Mane's Senegal teammate Ismaila Sarr notched a brace for the hosts, with the win capped off by a fine finish from Troy Deeney.

And Foster hailed his teammates for their performance, as they earned a victory which does wonders for them in their battle against relegation.

“We needed it badly. But it's not just about me, it's the lads in front of me," the former England goalkeeper told watfordfc.com .

"It's so cliched but it was a massive team effort.

"They had no shots that were going to go in the back of the net. Even when they had crosses in the box, I never felt like they were going to get on the end of it. I never felt threatened.

"To say that, against a team like Liverpool , is massive kudos to our lads.”
