Ben Foster extends Watford stay as veteran goalkeeper signs new two-year contract

Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has signed a new two-year deal at the club.

The 37-year-old’s current contract had been due to expire at the end of this season, but he has now agreed fresh terms.

The news is a boost for Watford, as Foster has proven himself to be one of the club’s top performers over the past 18 months.

The former England international moved to Vicarage Road in the summer of 2018 from West Brom for a fee of around £2.5million and established himself as the no1 option between the posts.

Foster has previously struggled with knee injuries, but said last year he felt that he could play until he was 40.

“I can carry on for as long as I want. I feel brilliant,” said Foster, whose new deal would see him play at the age of 39.“I have always said about my knees, but touch wood they have been brilliant lately and so two, three, four more years.

“I'm trying to get to that 40-year mark. I'm training most of the time and I'm enjoying it.

“I was with [Edwin] Van der Sar at [Manchester] United and when he actually signed for them, I think he was 35.

"He learned how to look after himself properly and he knew how to make himself fit for the Saturday.”
