Ben Dawson is asked about Steve Bruce situation in packed Press conference in Nanjing

Ben Dawson admits his role is simply to get Newcastle United players ready for the "new manager" with the club processing a deal to land Steve Bruce.

Dawson was put forward to face around 100 journalists at a Press conference at the Shangri-la Hotel in Nanjing.

When asked on he said: "The main aim is to prepare the players for the new manager coming in.

"The games will be competitive. We will try to win against Wolves then on Saturday to take the trophy back home.

"No news at this moment in time. We are waiting to hear along with everybody else.

"The players are working hard and trying to get a positive result for the team.

"All we can do is focus on the job out here. We have good staff and good players. We have worked hard training twice a day.

"We are preparing the players as we would for any fixture."

Reflecting on the experience of China so far, Dawson said: "It's been really good and the staff have been terrific.

"The staff in place had a plan and since Neil Redfearn and I came in we have added football elements.

"The players have been fantastic and have had a great ethic and great attitide.

"China has been really good and enjoyable.

"It is my second time out here.

"We have found about the culture of the city and the people have been great.

"The heat is difficult to deal with at times."
