Ben Davies transfer latest as Liverpool's centre-back search continues

Liverpool have yet to make contact with Preston North End regarding a move for defender Ben Davies.

Reports on Sunday suggested the Reds had made a £2m bid for the centre-back, who is out of contract in the summer and had been linked with a move to Celtic.

However, the ECHO understands that Liverpool have not yet made contact regarding the 25-year-old ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline day.

Deepdale insiders insist the Preston, who are also interested in taking Sepp van den Berg on loan from Liverpool, have not heard from the Premier League champions regarding the defender ahead of Monday’s transfer deadline day.

Despite not making contact with the Lilywhites, Davies could be a favourable option for the Reds if they opted to make a move on Monday, with the player’s home-grown status ensuring they would not need to leave a senior player out of their 25-man Premier League squad to register him.

With Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez sidelined until the end of the season, Jurgen Klopp confirmed Liverpool would make a late move to try sign a centre-back after also losing Fabinho and Joel Matip to injury last week.

The Reds have been linked with the likes of Shkodran Mustafi and Aaron Long as a result, but are yet to make a move as they continue consider their options before tomorrow’s 11pm deadline.
