Manchester United have made an approach to Mauricio Pochettino to become their new manager.
That is according to our friends at the Manchester Evening News.
The former Tottenham boss has been out of work since being sacked by Daniel Levy in November 2019.
He was replaced in N17 by former Man United boss Jose Mourinho, who remains in place in north London.
Current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is under intense pressure at Old Trafford, with the Champions League defeat to Istanbul Basaksehir making it three defeats in their last seven games.
United are 15th in the Premier League, having won just two of their six games so far, and Solskjaer is the favourite to be sacked first this season.
Pochettino has long been linked with the post and that speculation has only ramped up in recent days.
When Mourinho arrived at Spurs, Wales left-back Ben Davies outlined how he differed from Pochettino's management style. And it will interest United fans as to what they can expect.
"Under Poch we very much had our style of play and it was just the high press, high intensity," Davies told talkSPORT.
"Now I think we're a bit more tactical, we're a bit more aware of what we're coming up against.
"We have a game plan for each game."
The fact that he said there was a "game plan for each game" under Mourinho may concern United fans that they will not have one under Pochettino, but the high-press, high intensity style synonymous with Pochettino teams is cause for optimism.
