Ben Davies misses Rangers training with potential defensive crisis for Ajax Champions League clash

Rangers could be facing a potential injury crisis after Ben Davies sat out of training just 24 hours before the Champions League showdown with Ajax.

The summer signing from Liverpool was withdrawn in the weekend win over Aberdeen at half-time as the Light Blues picked up a vital win and matched it with a big performance as they ran out with a 4-1 victory to take some of the heat of boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The Ibrox men already lost Ridvan Yilmaz with a hamstring injury and he will face a few weeks on the sidelines but with Connor Goldson, Filip Helander and John Souttar already out, it leaves a big problem at centre-back if Davies is deemed unfit. James Sands would be the likely candidate to step back beside Leon King with John Lundstram serving a ban. Speaking at the weekend, the Rangers boss said: "Well, Ridvan of course at the moment in the first ten minutes I think, we had to get him off because he felt his hamstring.

"Ben already had a moment in the beginning of the game but could play on.

"But I didn't want to take any risk with him, so we have to assess him tomorrow to see how he feels."

Pushed on possible return timelines, Van Bronckhorst added: "I don't know yet. I think we will have Ridvan out for a couple of weeks but for Ben I still don't know."

Rangers still have a slim chance of reaching the Europa League knockout round by finish third in the group - but that would require a victory by five goals.

They are yet to get off the mark in the group with five defeats from five and just one goal scored and a whopping 19 against.
