Ben Davies breaks silence on Liverpool exit as loan move confirmed

Ben Davies has completed his season-long loan move away from Liverpool.

The centre-back has joined Sheffield United on loan for the remainder of the 2021/22 campaign, just six months after moving to Merseyside.

Blades boss Slavisa Jokanovic made Davies his main defensive target this summer, which played a part in negotiations with Liverpool.

Since arriving at Liverpool on deadline day in the winter, Davies has failed to make a single competitive appearance for the first-team.

Nat Phillips and Rhys Williams established themselves as the heroes for Liverpool’s defence during the tail end of last season, meaning Davies was unable to get on the pitch.

His only first-team experiences so far have been eight outings as an unused substitute on the bench.

Davies did get some minutes during pre-season, but it quickly became clear that a loan move away from Anfield would benefit all parties.

Speaking to Sheffield United's club website, Davies explained why he decided to leave Anfield, as he searches for his first competitive minutes in more than six months.

“It (joining Liverpool) was a move that you could never turn down, it was really exciting," said Davies.

“The whole set-up there is incredible, the club is like you wouldn’t believe until you actually get in there and see it for yourself.

“So I’ve had a good six months or so, but playing football is the most important thing to any footballer.

“That’s what got me driven to come out on loan and hopefully play some games and get back enjoying that competitive side again.”
