Ben Davies and Daniel Johnson transfer latest as Celtic and Rangers linked stars offered 'significant' new deals

Last summer's Celtic and Rangers targets Ben Davies and Daniel Johnson have been made 'significant' contract offers to ensure they remain at Preston, according to a report.

The Lancashire Post report the Championship club is desperate to retain the pair who are fundamental to Alex Neil 's team and have offered terms that will enhance their current salaries at the club.

Both are out of contract in the summer and would be able to agree pre-contract deals from January 1.

A turn of the year move would represent the final chance for the Lillywhites to cash in on their stars before losing them for nothing.

25-year-old defender Davies has been a feature at Deepdale since childhood and has developed into a stand-out in the Championship but the Hoops face a fight for his signature with Bournemouth also interested.

Attacking midfielder Johnson has recently been called into the Jamaican international set-up and made his debut against Saudi Arabia at the weekend.

The 28-year-old scored 12 and assisted eight in 34 games last season in the Championship as he became one of the league's most effective creators.

Rangers were heavily linked with a move in the summer but swooped for South African international Bongani Zungu instead when an offer was rejected.
