Ben Chilwell posts four year old throwback snap with Jack Grealish on England duty

Ben Chilwell has shared a throwback image with Jack Grealish as England prepare for their Euro 2020 quarter-final tie with Ukraine.

Pictured together on the plane to Rome, the Chelsea defender and Aston Villa midfielder sat next to each other for the journey and took a photograph that brought back memories for the pair.

Four years ago, Chilwell and Grealish were traveling abroad for England's Under-21 European Championships in Poland.

The Three Lions topped their group after earning wins against Slovakia and Poland and a draw versus Sweden.

But England were defeated at the semi-finals stage after losing 4-3 to Germany on penalties. Chilwell scored from the spot, but misses from Tammy Abraham and Nathan Redmond saw the team eliminated.

Fast forward to the present day and both Chilwell and Grealish are part of the senior England side competing at Euro 2020, having experienced rapid developments as players.

Chilwell was a Leicester player at the time of the 2017 tournament, but has since sealed a £50million move to Chelsea and recently won the UEFA Champions League.

Grealish, meanwhile, has remained at boyhood club Aston Villa but is now attracting interest from top Premier League sides as a result of his impressive displays.

The 25-year-old is currently being linked with a £100m move to Manchester City and is believed to be one of Pep Guardiola's top transfer targets.

Although included in Gareth Southgate's England squad, the two Premier League stars have not been able to earn as much game time as they would have liked.

Chilwell is still waiting for his first opportunity in the team, having missed out to Luke Shaw and Kieran Trippier.

His chances were further limited after being forced to self-isolate having come into contact with COVID-positive Billy Gilmour.

Supporters have been desperate to see Grealish starting every game for England, though Southgate has only started the Villa captain against Czech Republic so far.

The Birmingham-born midfielder has proven his quality when deployed from the substitutes bench, however, and grabbed an assist in the Three Lions' recent Round of 16 win over Germany.
