It was Ben Chilwell's strike that disturbed the scoreline when Chelsea defeated Brentford on Saturday but few would argue against it being Edouard Mendy that earned the Blues their win.
The goalkeeper has proved to be an excellent signing since joining the club from Rennes in September 2020, and has only elevated his reputation under Thomas Tuchel.
Mendy has more clean sheets than goals conceded so far this season and has racked up 30 clean sheets in 54 appearances in total for the Blues.
Against the Bees, the quality and number of the saves Mendy made were up there with anything he has produced in his 12 months at the club.
The Senegal international made six stops in the clash and Chilwell appreciated every one. The Blues defender believes Mendy provides the full package.
Speaking to the official Chelsea website Chilwell said: "I'm happy to score a goal but I think we have got to thank Edou.
"I don't know how many saves he made but there were a lot of very important saves and he does it every week for us.
"He bails us out, whether it's once or twice, or in this game on several occasions. He’s a world-class goalkeeper and is the one we've got to thank.
"It just gives you confidence when you know you've got someone like that behind you that comes to collect the ball from crosses, is a brilliant shot-stopper and good with his feet.
"We see it every day in training but now he's getting the credit he deserves and in these sorts of games where he makes big saves, he gets us the three points in the end."
