Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell believes that the attitude of his side was much improved against Aston Villa, compared to that just two days ago against Arsenal.
The Blues were held to a 1-1 draw against Villa tonight, as Anwar El Ghazi equalised for the visitors after Olivier Giroud's opener at Stamford Bridge.
Chilwell was just one of five players to be involved in Frank Lampard's starting line-up for the defeat to Arsenal on Boxing Day and the draw on Monday evening.
The Chelsea left-back was pleased with how himself and his team-mates responded to the defeat in the London derby just 48 hours after the match ended.
Speaking to Amazon Prime following the final whistle, the Blues and England full-back said: “Obviously he’s (Lampard) more pleased than he was the other day. It’s a draw at home and we want to be winning these games, but the effort and performance was a lot better today.
"The mentality was the main thing that we wanted from today and that was better.
"They’ve had one shot and they’ve scored. It’s disappointing, but we need to look at the positives - like 48 hours after a poor performance, we’ve played well and showed good character."
Chilwell has been in impressive form since arriving to west London from Leicester City over the summer.
The 24-year-old has demonstrated his defensive capabilities, as well as his attacking talent during his short cameo at Stamford Bridge so far.
Chilwell has explained how being at a club like Chelsea allows him to move into those attacking positions on a frequent basis.
"I kind of know the way we want to play at Chelsea with the full-backs joining in," he added.
"I’ve got that license that when I move forward, the midfielders are going to cover me, so I do like to get forward. The priority is defending but when I get the opportunity to go forward, I thrive on it."
