Ben Chilwell has got Chelsea fans talking about Cristiano Ronaldo and Manchester United

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell has had a better season so far than Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo according to a certain statistic that is rather telling.

Chilwell, 24, alongside the likes of Liverpool's Mohamed Salah, has arguably been one of the best players in the league in his position in recent weeks based on his current form in west London.

The left-back's re-emergence after a difficult summer with England and a slow start to the season at club level has demonstrated the defender's personality and character to bounce back from adversity.

Despite a strong start to the season by second choice full-back Marcos Alonso, the England international's balance in the attacking and defensive sense had him eventually dislodging the Spaniard from the first team on a permanent balance.

Coupled with this, his abundance of goals which started before the October international against Southampton, have proved pivotal in helping Thomas Tuchel's men keep their position at the top of the table as we approach game week 10 of the 2021/22 campaign.

His ability to make such an impact has delighted manager Tuchel, who spoke about the 24-year-old after the narrow 1-0 win against fellow west London club Brentford in the Premier League.

He said: "I am very happy but it was necessary. We need everybody and a player like him in top shape but you can't force things. I was honest with you guys, I felt he was tired and a bit mentally drained so it took time.

"He got his chance against Southampton and he took it. He was able to score and play for England which gave him more confidence and today again he was strong.

"He's in good shape but we need him in this shape because we have many games in many competitions to play. I'm happy and it was a decisive goal that will give him confidence."

Meanwhile, an impressive statistic has surfaced on Reddit which showcases the brilliance of Chilwell in comparison to one of the Premier League and world greats - Cristiano Ronaldo.

The former Leicester man has scored the same amount of goals as the Portuguese star in three fewer games, demonstrating the differences in fortunes and styles at this moment between Chelsea and Manchester United.

Here's the best of the reaction on social media to this impressive achievement for the £50million man.

@TagLishe_expert admitted: 'Man I’ve been seeing Chilwell vs Ronaldo comparisons throughout social media in the past 48 hrs.

'And it’s getting ridiculous. But I love it.'

@Strength_n_Humour pointed out the positives and negatives from this accolade: 'Chilwell Mount and Lukaku all tied top scorers in PL.

'This comparison is also a slight on our attackers.'

@Ripbear_ compared: 'Lukaku=Ronaldo.'

@orchidrocketman327 worries: 'The Ronaldo in PL memes are going to die if Conte gets a hold of that team. He'll end up with 20+ this season in that scenario.'
