Ben Chilwell delivers major injury update ahead of Chelsea vs Liverpool

Chelsea summer signing Ben Chilwell had a watching brief as his teammates kick-started their Premier League season.

The £50m arrival from Leicester City wasn't available for the trip to Brighton and Hove Albion because of an Achilles problem that saw him sit out the final few games of the 2019/20 campaign.

Although, Blues head coach Frank Lampard is hopeful of having the left-back in contention for a starting berth very soon as he delivered an injury update ahead of the game.

"Ben Chilwell is working towards fitness, he won't be fit for Brighton, he's developed and improved and is going in right direction," the Blues boss said in his pre-match press conference.

And the England international appears to be in good spirits despite missing out on the first Chelsea squad of the new season.

Taking to social media, he posted an encouraging injury update.

"Working hard to get back out there asap," he wrote on Twitter.

Before wishing his teammates the best of luck against the Seagulls.

"Good luck to the boys tonight. Lets get it."

Next up for the Blues is a home game against Liverpool this weekend.

It remains to be seen if the clash comes too soon for Chilwell to make his first Chelsea appearance, but Premier Injuries have his return date down as September 20.

If he doesn't make the game at Stamford Bridge, then it's likely that Marcos Alonso will once again get the nod at left-back.
