A rapping radio advertisement by Republican presidential hopeful Ben Carson’s campaign is scheduled to air on Friday.
Entitled “Freedom”, the $150,000 radio ad buy uses lyrics from rapper Aspiring Mogul spliced with parts of Carson’s stump speech. The nearly 60-second ad is specifically targeting young black voters, and will air for two weeks in Miami, Atlanta, Houston, Detroit, Birmingham, Jackson, Memphis and Little Rock, ABC News reported.
Carson’s campaign released the ad to appeal to the urban market, and inspire young black voters. The retired neurosurgeon is trying to win back black voters who have been driven away by the Republican party in previous presidential cycles.
“Vote and support Ben Carson for our next president and be awesome,” Mogul raps.
“America became a great nation early on not because it was flooded with politicians but because it was flooded with people who understood the value of personal responsibility, hard work, innovation, and that’s what will get us on the right track now,” Carson says between Mogul’s rap.
Representatives from Carson’s campaign did not immediately respond to Guardian requests for comment.
