Ben Brereton-Diaz transfer opens door for Nottingham Forest deal as 'talks' continue

Former Nottingham Forest striker Ben Brereton-Diaz is on the verge of completing the next move of his career - and it could help his old club settle their own transfer business.

The Chile international was linked with a return to the City Ground, although the Reds evidently never saw him as a priority signing. Instead, the forward looks set to join Villareal in the summer.

Several clubs have been chasing Brereton-Diaz since last year following some fine goalscoring form and the fact his contract with Blackburn Rovers is set to expire in 2023. But the Yellow Submarine "believe they have won the race" to his signature, according to the Express.

The 23-year-old, who can play both centrally and out wide, will see out the final months of his deal and is "poised to sign a pre-contract agreement" with the Spanish club. With a new attacker for next season just about sewn up, Villareal will be eager to get on with selling the out-of-favour Arnaut Danjuma.

The Dutch winger is a transfer target for Forest in the January window, but is also wanted by Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur. The Express reports that the player has returned to London to resume talks with potential suitors after flying to the English capital last weekend for initial discussions.

The report adds that Villareal are prepared to let Danjuma leave on loan this month - so long as the deal includes an obligation to buy at the end of the season. None of the aforementioned clubs are said to be leading the race, although Everton have been most heavily linked with him.
