Ben Brereton a 'wonderful footballer' after scoring his first goal since leaving Nottingham Forest

Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray described Ben Brereton as a "wonderful footballer" after he scored his first goal since leaving Nottingham Forest.

The 20-year-old made the move from the City Ground to Ewood Park in the summer for a reported £7m fee but has since struggled to find himself amongst the goals for Rovers in the few first-team opportunities that he has had, sparking speculation that he was feeling unsettled in Lancashire.

But, on Easter Monday, Brereton grabbed his first goal in blue and white and his manager has insisted that he is happy at Ewood Park and has tipped the striker to have a fantastic season ahead of him.

Joao Carvalho and Joe Lolley thrive thanks to Martin O'Neill's new system for Nottingham Forest

"Ben's had limited time. I have said all season, I'm sure he enjoys his time here," said Mowbray.

"I see him laughing and joking with the lads every day. I know that (Danny) Graham and (Bradley) Dack have really warmed to him because he is a young boy.

"I try to put it into context. If you think of (Adam) Armstrong being a young boy, this kid's two years younger than Armstrong. But he's a wonderful footballer and that's why he's here.

Here's what Nottingham Forest fans were saying about Joao Carvalho after 3-0 City Ground win over Middlesbrough

"That's why we invested the money, not necessarily for today, but for tomorrow, by that I mean the start of next season.

"He's got to be pushing hard to make sure he's a starter in our team. I'm sure he'll do that, work hard through pre-season and hopefully he has a fantastic year next year for us.

"I'm delighted for Brereton to score his goal. It was a great goal against a team making it difficult."
