Ben Affleck shares sweet story of surprising his son by dressing up as Batman

Ben Affleck says being able to dress up as Batman for the amusement of his son made it worth sitting through bad reviews of his performance as the caped crusader.

The 48-year-old actor is father to two daughters – 15-year-old Violet and 11-year-old Seraphina – and an eight-year-old son named Samuel who he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.

Ben has played Bruce Wayne/Batman in three films – first in the 2016 blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and sequel movie Justice League in 2017, while also making a cameo in the 2016 action flick Suicide Squad.

However, all three films were panned by critics – with Ben landing a Worst Actor Razzie Award nomination for his role as the billionaire vigilante.

But he agony of bad reviews was soothed by the fact Ben was able to fulfil a dream of his son – and, indeed, his lad was the reason he said yes to playing the role.

The Sun quotes the actor saying: “I did Batman because I wanted to do it for my kids.

“I wanted to do something that my son would dig. I mean, my kids didn’t see Argo.

“I wore the suit to my son’s birthday party, which was worth every moment of suffering on Justice League.”

Justice League is being re-released this year as a four part TV epic – with original director Zac Snyder back in the directing chair.

The 54-year-old movie maker had been at the wheel of the 2017 superhero film – but dropped out during production due to a family tragedy, with Avengers: Age of Ultron director Joss Whedon stepping in to complete work on the film.

Fans are hopeful the upcoming Zack Snyder's Justice League version will be a truer representation of the story of multiple superheroes banding together to defeat an extraterrestrial threat with the original director re-cutting and re-filming scenes to make an epic four hour story.

The new version of the film is to be released in March this year.
