Belvedere set for €500,000 windfall from Matt Doherty’s transfer to Tottenham Hotspur from Wolves

Dublin nursery club Belvedere are set for a €500,000 windfall from Matt Doherty’s recent transfer to Tottenham Hotspur from Wolves.

The Ireland defender’s schoolboy club are entitled to two shares of the €14.8m fee.

Firstly, FIFA compensation of €169,000 is due as he spent three of his formative years with them.

However, the bulk will be paid as part of a separate 20 per cent cut of the sell-on clause Bohemians brokered with Wolves in their transfer of Doherty in 2010.

The League of Ireland club included a 10 per cent knock-on provision when Wolves, then managed by Mick McCarthy, recruited the rookie following a friendly between the sides.

Of the €1.48m due to Bohs, a €296,000 slice will go to Belvedere as part of that legally binding agreement.

They previously received increments for milestones such as Doherty making his Premier League debut against Liverpool in 2011 and earning his first Ireland cap in 2018.

Belvedere, based in Dublin’s north inner city, have produced 14 full internationals since being formed in 1971.

Troy Parrott became their latest by being capped by Mick McCarthy against New Zealand last November.
