Beloved Howth restaurant forced to close days before indoor dining reopening after fire rips through premises

A beloved Dublin restaurant has been forced to close just days before the indoor dining reopening after a fire ripped through the premises.

The Brass Monkey in Howth is one of the city's most popular seafood spots, with punters coming from across the capital to grab a table every day.

And while they have been able to serve outdoors this year, that has now come to a temporary end just days before they would be allowed to reopen indoors.

A fire tore through the restaurant, with plumes of smoke coming from the roof and being seen for miles around.

Dublin Fire Brigade were quick on the scene with four engines and a turntable ladder.

The DFB managed to save the place, but they will have to keep the doors shut for the time being.

In a statement on Facebook, the restaurant apologised for having to cancel reservations for their reopening.

They wrote: "We are temporarily closed due to a recent fire on the premises.

"We apologise to all the reservations we have to cancel, due to this unforeseen closure.

"Gift vouchers are still available to purchase from the website and will be honoured when we reopen.

"Thank you for your continued support, what a year!"

The DFB added their thanks for the businesses next door for allowing them access to the roof.

They said: "Four units were called to Howth today after reports of a fire in a premises.

"A turntable ladder attended the scene and smoke was widely visible in the area.

"Thanks to the local businesses who facilitated access to the roof."
