Beloved family cat has leg amputated after owner says it was shot in street

The owner of a much-loved pet cat was left in 'utter disbelief' after she says the animal was shot and seriously injured near her home.

Flo, a five-year-old family cat, is said to have been targeted with a metal bullet while wandering close to home in Tottington, Bury, on September 7.

The animal was in so much pain that she was seen dragging herself along with her two front paws just off Vernon Road.

Her owner, Richelle Thompson, says her pet was only discovered two days later after a neighbour found her hiding under some patio furniture.

She was rushed to vets who confirmed her leg had been broken.

At first it was believed she had been attacked by an animal or hit by a car.

But Richelle says tests revealed that Flo had been shot with a metal bullet – shattering her leg and causing severe muscle damage.

Medics said she would have spent the two days she was missing in agony.

Her injuries were so severe vets were forced to amputate the damaged leg.

Flo is now recovering at home but still suffers with a high temperature.

Mum-of-two Richelle told the Manchester Evening News : “We were completely shocked and in utter disbelief that this could happen and how someone could treat an animal like that.

“I didn’t eat, I didn’t sleep, I was a mess.

“I felt sick at how someone could target an animal.

“She’s the loveliest, friendliest cat ever. Even when she was in that much pain, vets commented on how well behaved she was.

“It’s caused so much heartache and trauma.

“I took it really personally.”

The family have since set up a Gofundme in the hopes of raising some money towards Flo’s vet bills.

The costs are expected to run into the thousands of pounds.
