Beloved Edinburgh LGBT bar 'closes' marking 'end of an era' as tributes pour in

A beloved Edinburgh gay bar will be closing its doors after years of trading, Edinburgh Live understands.

Edinburgh LGBTQ+ cafe bar Habana announced it was having its "last dance" on Friday, June 30 before serving its last orders on Sunday, July 2.

Posting to his TikTok, the resident DJ, Darren Glasgow, urged regulars to come down for the party at Greenside Place to mark the "end of an era".

Tributes have since been flooding in as customers reminisce over the Edinburgh institution. Some even remember back to the 1980s when the bar was known as Chaps.

One posted to social media: "It’s a sad day for the LGBT community in Edinburgh."

Another said: "Gutted. Been going there since 1987 when it was Chaps and is now my local. Fantastic pub."

"Habana, thanks for the memories," a loyal customer wrote.

Habana regular Scott Brown told Edinburgh Live: "I'm so gutted. It was the first gay bar in Edinburgh I went to and didn't feel frightened.

"Edinburgh back in 2003 was a scary place for a gay guy."
