Beloved Chapters Bookstore to reopen under new ownership

Beloved Dublin institution Chapters Bookstore has announced that it will reopen later this week.

Chapters had announced that after 40 years in business in locations across the city, it would be closing its doors for the last time on January 31.

But Ireland's largest independent book shop will open its doors again on Friday, March 11 after the owners of Gamesworld bought the business.

Chapters confirmed the good news on social media this morning, writing: "We just couldn’t let it go! The Gamesworld lads from the back of Chapter’s Middle Abbey St, Kev & Mick are the new owners of Chapters - reopening Friday 11th March!"

Previous owners William and Ger Kinsella shared an emotional message on social media announcing the closure back in January.

They said: "Following the announcement of our closure after 40 wonderful years in business, we would like to announce that we will be closing our doors on January 31."

"Your support over the last 40 years and especially over the past number of months has been so greatly appreciated."

After the announcement, queues formed for days as customers looked to take advantage of the closing down sale.

On the day of its closure Dubliners paid tribute to the business that first opened its doors on Wicklow Street in 1983.

One man told Dublin Live: "It's a great place to come and browse around, we'll miss it"

Another Dublin shopper said: "It's awful, it's a real loss for the area. It's such a pity."

Now the guys who own Gamesworld, have taken control of Chapters with deliveries of new books already taking place for the grand reopening.
