Beloved Bristol cake shop and cafe goes up for sale

A popular vegan cake shop in Bristol has been put up for sale.

Four years after launching on North Street, Earthcake founders Gerzson and Diana are now searching for new owners to take their business on.

In March last year Earthcake raised £2,700 in a crowdfunding campaign after all of its wedding and birthday cake orders and afternoon tea events were cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However in a statement announcing their decision to put the business on the market, the pair said it was not caused by Covid-19 but instead because they want to return to their native country.

"After lots and lots of thinking we've decided that we want to sell Earthcake," they said. "No, it's not because of Covid, business is doing great, actually we're receiving more cake orders than ever.

"The reason why we want to sell it is that we're from Hungary and after spending almost 10 amazing years here in the UK, we feel it's time to go home and be with our family and friends.

"It was the toughest decision ever as we LOVE what we do, we love our customers, the community, our neighbours and all the amazing local independent businesses, and we love doing our bit in spreading the vegan message.

"We've received many offers in the past years, so if you contacted us about buying and we politely sent you away, now it's the time to contact us again!"

Earthcake makes bespoke occasion cakes for delivery and also operated as a cafe before coronavirus restrictions prevented it from welcoming customers.

All outstanding Earthcake orders will be fulfilled and the company is still taking new orders, the statement continues.

It goes on to say that last year's turnover was £110,000, which is roughly how much it will cost to purchase the business.

The acquisition will also include Earthcake's UK-wide brownies postal webshop and "tons more".

Bristol Live has contacted Earthcake for comment and is awaiting a response.

People interested in taking the business on can email contact@earthcakebristol.com for more information.
