Beloved ballet Swan Lake making its long-awaited return to Dublin

One of the world's most famous ballets, Swan Lake, is set to make its long-awaited return to Dublin when it arrives at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre in Spring 2022.

The internationally renowned St Petersburg Ballet Theatre is coming back to the fair city for a run of shows from Tuesday, March 29 until Saturday, April 2 with the full-length classic production of Swan Lake.

For those who are not familiar, Swan Lake is the classic tale of love and dark magic, telling the immortal love story of Prince Siegfried and Odette, a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer’s curse.

St Petersburg Ballet Theatre promises to tell the story as it was meant to be told with Tchaikovsky’s moving score, gorgeous traditionally painted backdrops and help from the Irish National Opera Orchestra.

St Petersburg Ballet Theatre was founded in 1994 and quickly became renowned globally. Led by prima ballerina Irina Kolesnikova, the company travels the world to bring international audiences classical masterpieces such as Giselle, Don Quixote, The Nutcracker and Sleeping Beauty.

Kolesnikova, who has been prima ballerina at the St Petersburg Ballet Theatre since the age of 21, has been praised for her “enthralling” performances with the "dramatic power of a Maggie Smith or Judi Dench.”

She will share the Dublin stage with guest dancers from Russia’s leading ballet companies, who will be announced at a later date.

Tickets for Swan Lake at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre go on sale this Friday, November 12 at 9am.
