Belmont Road security alert after suspicious device found in East Belfast

A suspicious device has been discovered at an East Belfast school.

It was found in the Belmont Road area on Thursday evening, in the grounds of Strathearn School.

Two bomb squad lorries left the area at around 7.20pm.

A PSNI spokesman said: "Police are currently at the scene of a security alert at a school in the Belmont Road area of east Belfast following the discovery of a suspicious device in the area this evening (Thursday 27th, February).

"A number of homes have been evacuated, while part of the Belmont Road and Belmont Church Road have been cordoned off.

"There are no further details at this time."
