Bellewstown betting tips: Peter O'Hehir's selections for Wednesday's horse racing action

Progressive three year-old royal Aide will be fancied to follow-up last week’s convincing Killarney win in the featured Betvictor ‘Bellewstown Bowl’ Handicap today.

Joseph O’Brien’s charge, handicapped on the basis of three runs in five weeks in the June/July period, shaped with promise on his handicap debut behind One Cool Poet in Galway and delivered in style in Killarney last thursday.

In a three-year-old handicap, for apprentices, Shane Crosse gave the Galileo colt a confident ride. And Royal Aide, sent off 5/2 favourite, scored convincingly, beating Severus Alexander by three and three-quarter lengths.

That performance suggested that there should be plenty more to come and the handicapper reacted by giving the colt a 14lb. ‘hike’.

Today, the selection races off his old mark, plus a 6lb. mandatory penalty. So, although tackling some battle-hardened older rivals, Donnacha O’Brien’s mount is expected to follow-up.

Among the dangers are recent winners Drakensberg and edification while local hope Construct, trained by John McConnell, comes into the race on the back of emphatic hurdles wins at Downpatrick and Sligo. But i’ll rely on the improving three-year-old.

On his second to subsequent listed winner Justifier at Leopardstown, Royal Aide’s 83-rated stablemate Potala

Palace must be a leading fancy for the latest in the Foran-spon- sored two-year-old auction series.

But he flopped last time, when only seventh to subsequent Killarney scorer Raven’s Cry in Galway.

And preference in today’s event is for Noel Meade’s charge Charlie Bassett, which showed plenty of pace on his second start (in Naas), when filling third spot behind Cool Vixen and subsequent scorer Punita Arora.

Collared late by Cautious Approach in Killarney on Saturday, Joe Murphy’s Solomons Seal might take full advantage of the inside stall in the first division of the P&M Green energy Cottages Handicap over just short of a mile.

And a prominent showing from Solomon would point to the prospects of his conqueror Cautious Approach in the second division of this 45-65 handicap

Richard O’Brien’s charge will have to cope with the top-weight High Altitude, successful twice in Killarney last week, but set to shoulder 10-11 here, minus Aaron Mackay’s 7lb. claim.
