Bellator star Leah McCourt explains how she balances being a single mum with MMA career

MMA star Leah McCourt revealed how she multitasks to balance her pro fighting career with being a single mother.

The Belfast fighter, 27, will become the first Irishwoman to headline a major MMA promotion's show when she fights Judith Ruis at the 3Arena in Dublin on Saturday night.

Proud mum Leah described her hectic schedule on Ireland AM.

"I get up at seven, I usually run the treadmill in my kitchen. I'm the queen of multitasking," McCourt said.

"Isabella's still in bed, we get her up, get her to school, drive to Dublin, do a two-hour session, drive back up the road, pick her up from school, get her home, homework done, dinner and then go out again that night so it's pretty hectic.

"I just feel like another working mum, there's so many mums who work full time and have to juggle so much."

As well as looking after her daughter Isabella, McCourt is busy winning fights and flying the flag for women in sport - as she prepares to take centre stage in the main event of a stacked card.

A win would see her professional record move to 4-1.

"It's such a great time for females in sport in Ireland," she added.

McCourt received the news that she would be the star attraction on February 22 after James Gallagher was ruled out through injury.

She revealed her surprise and delight at getting the call, telling Mirror Sport: "It was definitely a massive shock, it wasn't something I was expecting.  Total gratitude to Bellator for giving me this position and this platform.

"They are an organisation that's walking their own path and doing their own thing, and it's nice to be the first Irish female to ever headline the card of a leading MMA organisation, and the first female non-title fight to headline a Bellator card.

"There will definitely be history made on the night."

"Fighting in the 3Arena in front of the Irish fans...it's hard to describe it. They are levels above anywhere else in the world to fight," she added.

"I have been at fight cards and fought all around the world but walking out in there, there's literally nothing like it. It's the best feeling in the world and the atmosphere is just unbelievable."

McCourt went on to explain plans to celebrate with her 9-year-old daughter backstage - providing all goes well on Saturday.

"She will be here at the 3Arena on the fight night in February with my mum. I don't know if she'll watch the fight because it is a lot for a kid to take in," McCourt added.

"But obviously I'm going to have her backstage, so when I get my win I'd want her to be there and that will be nice."
