Bellator adds highly touted amateur Sumiko Inaba to women’s flyweight division

Sumiko Inaba is the newest member of the Bellator women’s flyweight division.

Inaba (0-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) has never competed at the professional level, but caught the eye of major promotions during her time on the amateur scene. MMA Junkie confirmed Inaba’s signing with a Bellator official after Inaba’s manager, Brian Butler, announced the signing on Instagram in a recent post.

At this time, no details have been revealed for Inaba’s Bellator debut.

The 28-year-old amassed a 6-1 record during her time on the amateur scene, winning her final five fights. Within her six victories, Inaba finished five with four TKO’s and one submission. The combined record of Inaba’s opponents at the time she fought them is 17-5.

Inaba’s most recent bout came in June 2019 at Donald Cerrone’s Cowboy Fight Series 2. Inaba took out Kelsey Gilmore by third-round stoppage to earn the promotion’s vacant flyweight title. In 2018, the Hawaiian fighter also competed twice for notable amateur promotion Tuff-N-Uff.
