Bellator 247: Paul Daley taken ill, main event bout with Derek Anderson canceled

The main event of Bellator 247 has officially been canceled.

English welterweight Paul Daley was reportedly taken ill after weighing in 2.6 pounds over the 171-pound non-title welterweight limit on Wednesday morning and, according to reports on the ground in Milan, was later taken to hospital before the ceremonial weigh-in event.

Journalist and broadcaster Gareth A. Davies tweeted that the scheduled face-off between Daley and opponent Derek Anderson did not occur, then stated that the fight had been called off after Daley was taken to hospital on a stretcher. Davies said the fight’s cancellation was confirmed to him by commissioner Brandon Morse.

Bellator officials subsequently confirmed with MMA Junkie that the main event bout between Daley and Anderson had indeed been canceled and that an official comment will be issued in due course.
