THACKERVILLE, Okla. – MMA Junkie was on scene and reporting live from Thursday’s early and official Bellator 233 fighter weigh-ins, where all but two fighters hit their marks for Friday’s card.
In the main event, John Salter (16-4 MMA, 6-1 BMMA) takes on Costello van Steenis (12-1 MMA, 4-0 BMMA) in a fight between middleweight contenders. In the co-feature, Muhammed Lawal (21-9 MMA, 10-6 BMMA) puts on the gloves for what he says will be his retirement fight against Andrew Kapel (14-6 MMA, 0-0 BMMA).
Van Steenis was 185.4 pounds on the scale. Salter weighed in with 15 minutes left in the two-hour window and was 185.3 to make the headliner official. Lawal was 193.3 pounds for his 195-pound contract weight fight against Kapel, who was 192.7.
Robert Gidron (4-3 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) missed the welterweight limit for his fight against Kyle Crutchmer (4-0 MMA, 0-0 BMMA). He came in at 175.8 pounds and will be fined 20 percent of his purse. Gidron took the fight on just a few days’ notice as a replacement for Antonio Jones.
And Jason Perrotta (3-3 MMA, 0-0 BMMA) was 186.7 pounds for his middleweight fight agianst Romero Cotton (3-0 MMA, 3-0 BMMA), who was on point at 186. Perrotta will surrender 20 percent of his purse to Cotton.
The early weigh-ins took place at WinStar World Casino & Resort in Thackerville, Okla., and preceded the ceremonial weigh-ins for the fans, which take place at 1 p.m. ET at MIST inside WinStar World Casino & Resort.
Bellator 233 takes place Friday at WinStar World Casino & Resort in Thackerville, Okla. The main card airs on Paramount and streams on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.
