The final opening round matchup of the welterweight grand prix ended in controversy at Bellator 220.
In the main event, welterweight champion Rory MacDonald (20-5 MMA, 2-1 BMMA) defended his belt with a controversial majority draw over WSOF champ and ex-UFC title challenger Jon Fitch (31-7-1 MMA, 1-0 BMMA). In the co-main event, women’s flyweight champion Ilima-Lei Macfarlane (9-0 MMA, 8-0 BMMA) stayed unbeaten when her fight against Veta Arteaga (5-2 MMA, 4-2 BMMA) was called due to a brutal cut on Arteaga.
The event took place at SAP Center in San Jose, Calif. The main card streams on DAZN following prelims on MMA Junkie.
