Bella Thorne isn’t holding back. The actor and singer has reignited talk about her whirlwind romance with Charlie Puth, dropping a blunt accusation that he “lied to the entire world” about her and sparked a wave of online backlash — all because, in her words, she wouldn’t “do the deed with him”.
The drama flared up again on July 11, when Thorne, 27, jumped into the comments on an Instagram Post discussing Jade Thirlwall’s refusal to collaborate with Puth. Thorne’s comment was direct: “Yeah I mean .. he lied to the entire world about me and started a hate train. All because I wouldn’t …. Do the deed with him.”
That single remark sent social media into overdrive, dragging their brief but messy history back into the spotlight.
Bella Thorne and Charlie Puth’s relationship
Back in December 2016, Bella and Charlie were spotted together at Miami’s Jingle Ball, where Puth performed while Thorne watched from the crowd. The pair were rumoured to be dating, but things quickly spiralled when Puth accused Thorne of not being honest about her breakup with actor Tyler Posey.
Puth took to social media, saying: “I can’t believe what I’m reading. No one should have their heart messed with like this, and I’m not going to be in the middle of it.”
He also apologised to Posey, adding: “I don’t know Tyler personally, but I know he shouldn’t be treated this way. She told me she was not with him anymore. This is all news to me.”
Thorne responded on X (formerly Twitter), setting the record straight: “Ty and I have been broken up for like over two weeks and charlie and I ARENT DATING we are friends. That article was written forever ago. Charlie and I were hanging out.. he saw an old interview and got butthurt but instead of texting me and asking about it he put it on Twitter.”

In a 2017 chat on SiriusXM’s The Jenny McCarthy Show, Thorne reflected on how things got so messy.
“Honestly, Ty and I stopped dating and that was really difficult for me. It was definitely one of the hardest breakups I’ve been through. Basically, Ty and I stopped dating and Charlie had been tweeting about me for a while. He was trying to reach out to me.”
She went on to explain that they only hung out a couple of times, saying, “I hung out with him twice. We went to the movies. He was cool. I was like, ‘Wow, you’re really talented. Holy shit. You’re fucking great, dude.’ And then he invited me to Jingle Ball to watch him perform.”
But after their public outing, things escalated. “Charlie saw an old news article, and he didn’t look at the date, and the date is old, and it’s about me and Ty,” she continued.
“In Charlie’s defence, when he read it, not reading the date, it sounded like it was about me and Ty still being together. He didn’t even text me or talk to me about it.”
Where things stand now between Bella Thorne and Charlie Puth
These days, Bella Thorne is engaged to producer Mark Emms, and in December 2023, she shared that they “draw closer” every day, even if wedding plans aren’t locked in just yet. Charlie Puth, on the other hand, married his childhood friend Brooke Sansone in September last year.
For now, both stars seem focused on their own relationships and careers. Charlie is yet to comment on the situation.
