Bella Thorne is writing the film sequel

Bella Thorne is writing and directing a Spring Breakers sequel.

The 28-year-old star has revealed that she's been busily working on a sequel to the 2012 crime drama, which featured James Franco, Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, Rachel Korine, and Gucci Mane.

During an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Bella shared: "The producers watched Color Your Hurt, which is the movie that I just wrapped, an early cut of it. And they asked me to write something to see if they would like it. And they loved it! And now I’m writing and directing Spring Breakers 2."

Bella - who recently made her directorial debut with Color Your Hurt, a coming-of-age thriller film - was approached about making the sequel and she's relished the creative process so far.

The former Disney star also revealed how the sequel will differ from the original.

The actress - who has previously starred in movies such as Blended, The DUFF, Amityville: The Awakening, and Infamous - said: "This time, things are different. They are crazy. There’s a lot of craziness, there’s a lot of litness. There is so much litness in this movie."

Meanwhile, Bella previously revealed that she hates it when people are pigeonholed within the movie industry.

The actress first found fame as a child, when she starred on the Disney Channel, and she admitted to feeling "uncomfortable" when actors and actresses are pigeonholed and limited to specific roles.

Bella - who previously starred as CeCe Jones in the hit Disney Channel series Shake It Up - told The Hollywood Reporter: "People are so quick to do that and I don’t like it, it makes me uncomfortable.

"I can’t wrap my brain around it and when I can’t wrap my brain around things and it has the opposite effect on me. It actually intrigues me more to question them or to learn more about them."

Bella also explained that she was keen to have a more hands-on role in her projects.

Asked if she has any other burning ambitions in her career, Bella replied: "Yeah. I’m working on a short film that I am going to be putting out soon.

"I’m currently submitting it to festivals and hopefully that will be a big change for me as far as people hearing my voice and being able to see me and experience my vision.

"It’s a way for me to move forward in the world, you know?"
