Former Disney wild child star Bella Thorne has opened up about her decision to direct a pornographic film following the release of her award winning erotic release Her & Him.
The 21-year-old film and television actress has said she wanted to make a horror film before pornographic website PornHub invited her to direct a sexually explicit movie instead.
Bella played CeCe Jones alongside Zendaya in the Disney series Shake It Up between 2010 and 2013 before landing roles in dramas including Big Love (a drama about polygamy starring Chloe Sevigny) and horror TV show Scream (based on the Wes Craven film series).
Earlier this year, she released her pornographic film as part of PornHub’s Visionaries Director’s Series – an initiative to showcase debut projects from directors and intended to diversify the content found within porn.
Bella’s film features an “edgy 20-something guy who stumbles upon a surprise text in his girlfriend's phone” that leads to the couple exploring their sex life.
"Well, the process of shooting was quite interesting because we had real-life f*****g on set, which I have never shot before,” the American star told Lad Bible.
"Also this was my first short in general, so it was quite an interesting experience to have the first thing that I really fully directed have so much sex in it... It is quite a fun environment,” she added.
She had previously explained that the film originally started out as a horror before she switching things up and wrote a pornographic film.
“Originally I was shopping it around a very long time ago and things were very different," she said.
"People are kind of scared to make a movie like this one when it comes to dominance and submissive[ness] between a male and a female and how this relationship can turn quite sour,” she added.
Bella’s film won PornHub’s Vision Award for it’s effort – something the actress was thrilled to receive.
“I’m honoured to receive this award," she told Entertainment Weekly.
"I'm excited for visions of beauty like this to be shed in a new light. Breaking the taboo of what's classified as beautiful has always been a vision of mine and it brings me such joy to see this being recognised for what it truly is… beautiful visionary art,” she added.
