Bella Thorne has defended Armie Hammer amid allegations about the actor’s sexual preferences.

Hammer was embroiled in a social media scandal last week after alleged direct messages surfaced that alluded to misconduct on the actor’s part. Some of the actor’s messages, which appeared flirtatious, implied that he was into BDSM practices and had a cannibal fetish.

In the wake of the allegations, Hammer announced that he would be stepping away from his latest film project, citing unspecified “vicious and spurious online attacks” against him.

While few celebrities have spoken out about the rumours, actor Thorne defended Hammer on Instagram on Thursday (14 January).

“I honestly can’t believe this… people are crazy to fake this kinda s*** this poor guy and his kids like leave him and his family alone [sic],” the 23-year-old wrote.

“No way he’s a freaking CANNIBAL…..”

Thorne also implied that the messages doing the rounds were “fake”, adding: “Also there’s a million fake screen shots around.”

On Wednesday (13 January), Hammer shared a statement as it was revealed that his role opposite Jennifer Lopez in Shotgun Wedding would be recast.

“I’m not responding to these bulls*** claims, but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic,” Hammer said in a statement.

“Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I’m grateful to them for that.”

Hammer’s other upcoming film projects include The Billion Dollar Spy, as well as a planned sequel to Call Me By Your Name.
