The bizarre drama between Bella Thorne’s non-relationship with Charlie Puth still wears on, almost 10 years later.
This time, the spark was, of course, a shady comment under a shady post about Charlie Puth. The much sort after Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall was posted on Popfaction saying the one artist she would never work with is Charlie Puth. The unconfirmed rumor? Puth allegedly tried to make a romantic pass at Jade while she thought their relationship was strictly professional during their song “Oops.” Puth has been out here confessing to the media how smitten he is with Jade. Jade, clearly, does not feel remotely the same way. This is apparently not a one-time thing either – it’s allegedly a pattern.
Bella Thorne, never one to ignore bad behavior, came in swinging with backup vocals for Jade, commenting on the post, “Yeah I mean .. he lied to the entire world about me and started a hate train. All because I wouldn’t …. Do the deed with him.” Thorne’s public life has had its share of chaos, but her situation with Charlie Puth remains one of the more confusing chapters.
Now, that comment might make it sound like Thorne and Puth had a messy situationship that didn’t amount to much — and, according to People, Puth also thought the same. But according to Thorne, they were just “friends.”
The two were linked in 2016 for a grand total of about two weeks. Their stories don’t exactly align, but if you merge both accounts, you get a decent idea of what probably went down. Puth, predictably, was out here on Twitter letting the world know he was interested in Bella Thorne.
There was only one problem: Thorne was in a relationship with Teen Wolf star Tyler Posey. When that ended in what Thorne later described as her “hardest breakup,” she started hanging out with Puth. According to her, she only hung out with Puth twice and thought he was “cool and talented.” he, meanwhile, invited her to his Miami show during those two weeks and even serenaded her.
From Puth’s perspective, the whole thing was deeper. After misreading an article he thought was current (it wasn’t) about Bella and Tyler, Puth did what any messy pop star would do — ran to Twitter, the home of drama. He started off with a public apology to Tyler, saying he had no idea Bella was still with him. Charlie posted an impassioned statement: “I can’t believe what I’m reading. No one should have their heart messed with like this, and I’m not going to be in the middle of it.”
You can imagine the embarrassment on Puth’s part when Thorne hopped on a few hours later to clarify that it was an old post, and that she’s not even dating him anyway, publicly wondering why he didn’t just text her instead of making it everybody’s business. Well, if true, we now know why.
