Bella Hadid slams Instagram for removing post about dad's Palestinian roots

Bella Hadid has hit back at Instagram after the platform removed an image from her social media story that featured a picture of her dad's passport.

The 23-year-old American model suggested to her 31.4 million followers that Instagram was 'bullying' her by taking the post down.

The picture in question was of the US passport that belonged to Bella Hadid's dad Mohamed.

The birth place mentioned on the expired passport was Palestine.

Sharing a screenshot of the Instagram notification, Bella revealed that the post had been removed because it allegedly 'went against community guidelines'.

The model, who has Palestinian and Dutch heritage, wrote: "Instagram removed my story that only said 'My baba And his birthplace of Palestine' with a photograph of his American paassport.

Bella shared a screenshot of the message she had received from Instagram (bellahadid/Instagram)

"@instagram exactly what part of me being proud of my fathers birth place of Palestine is "bullying, harassment, graphic, or sexual nudity"?" the model quizzed.

Bella continued: "Are we not allowed to be Palestinian on Instagram? This, to me, is bullying."

"You can't erase history by silencing people. It Doesn't work like that," she concluded.

A spokesperson for Instagram has told the MirrorOnline: "To protect the privacy of our community, we don’t allow people to post personal information, such as passport numbers, on Instagram. In this case the passport number was blurred out, so this content shouldn't have been removed. We've restored the content and apologize to Bella for the mistake.”

The supermodel then defiantly reposted the image with another caption (bellahadid/Instagram)

In defiance, Bella reposted the image of her dad's passport alongside another message.

“I am proud to be Palestinian,” she wrote.

“Everyone should post where their mother and fathers were born today! Remind them how proud you are of where you come from."

The posts, that she shared yesterday, have not been removed from the platform a second time.

"Bella Hadid ended instagram. we have no choice but to stan," wrote one Twitter follower.

"Just checked Bella Hadid's Instagram and that's real. The current form of silencing & censorship imposed by @instagram," wrote another.

A third wrote: "Instagram has a problem with people being Palestinian? Wow that is some next level bullying. Bella Hadid just took Instagram to cleaners."
