Belgium manager Roberto Martinez sends Divock Origi transfer warning to Liverpool

Roberto Martinez has warned Divock Origi he must increase his playing time at Liverpool otherwise he faces missing out for Belgium at the European Championship squad in the summer.

Although Origi was handed a rare start against Burnley last week, the forward has struggled for game time so far this season.

After his 57 minutes against the Clarets last week, Origi managed another five minutes in the FA Cup defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Both Inter Milan and RB Leipzig have both been strongly linked with a move for Origi this month and Martinez has advised the forward to consider his options.

“He is a great talent,” Martinez told FCInterNews. “From a very young age he achieved a high level of performance. In 2014 he started the World Cup in Brazil; seven years have already passed.

“He remains a young athlete, who despite having scored historic goals in the Champions League and Premier League with Liverpool in the last three seasons, did not have the time expected, at least here with Belgium.”

Before the former Everton boss continued: “He is an athlete who is not afraid, nothing is too big for him. That is why he has had that success I was talking about before.

“What is certain though is that he would need to play more, and have a more central role. Here [with Belgium] there are many expectations regarding his decision in this transfer window.”
