Belgium face injury worry as Man City star Kevin de Bruyne absent from training

Manchester City ace Kevin de Bruyne was absent from Belgium's training session on Wednesday, with concern regarding his availability at Euro 2020 continuing.

De Bruyne was forced off due to a knock in Belgium's 1-0 victory over Portugal in the weekend's Round of 16 clash, which set up a quarter-final against Italy.

Belgium lock horns with Italy in a fiercely anticipated quarter-final at the Allianz Arena in Munich but De Bruyne may miss the clash.

He did not train on Wednesday as preparations for that tie continued, with Real Madrid's Eden Hazard also missing and expected to be unavailable on Friday.

Both players now face a race against time to be fit to feature against Italy but the chances of them doing so look increasingly slim.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Belgium boss Roberto Martinez said: "It's quite positive for us. Eden and Kevin have no structural damage.

“They will remain with the squad. We won't get them fully fit for Friday. In the next phase they will be fit to play. We take it day by day."

Belgium are among the favourites for glory in Euro 2020, with their chances of victory increasing after some big names exited from the competition this week.

France and Germany's premature departure from the tournament has increased the hopes for the likes of Belgium, England, Italy and Spain - all of whom have reached the quarter-finals.

Should Belgium defeat Italy, a semi-final at Wembley against Spain or Switzerland is on the cards.
