Belgium beat Finland to give Scotland win or bust Croatia Euro 2020 mission as any Hampden victory will seal knockout place

Scotland and Steve Clarke have been handed a massive Euro 2020 boost as results in other groups now mean a win of any kind will secure a last 16 spot against Croatia at Hampden.

Their preparations were rocked on Monday morning when midfielder Billy Gilmour was confirmed to have tested positive for Covid less than 36 hours before our biggest game in decades.

It came as a shock and after bossing the game at Wembley and helping earn a valuable point against England his absence could well be felt against Croatia.

But the blow was weakened by the fact no other players have been deemed as close contacts by Public Health England.

And the national team received a further boost by the time they had retired to their hotel rooms in Glasgow for the night.

A Mikkel Damsgaard wonder strike had Denmark flying against Russia and they amazingly sealed second place in the group with a 4-1 win.

The team rocked by Christian Eriksen's heart attack on the pitch saw Yousef Poulsen, Andreas Christensen and Joakim Maehle strike to make Artem Dzyuba's penalty irrelevant.

In the other game Belgium took their time but eventually managed a 2-0 win over Finland thanks to goals from Thomas Vermaelen and Romelu Lukaku - meaning Glen Kamara and company finished in third on three points.

It follows Austria's Group C victory earlier in the evening over Ukraine that consigned Andriy Shevchenko's men to third spot, also on three points.

And that means the stakes are clear on Tuesday night against Luka Modric and company: winner stays on.

Any victory will put Scotland on four points — meaning they'll earn a back door ticket as one of the top four third-placed teams without needing to wait on favourable results in other groups after full time at the national stadium.

It's still possible we could get second place - if the Czechs beat England and our result is enough to turn the goal difference in our favour - but either way it's now do or die.
