Belgian Pro League resumption remains possible as clubs postpone vote to abandon season

Belgian top-flight clubs have postponed a vote to ratify the cancellation of the 2019-20 season, meaning a resumption remains possible.

All 24 teams will now decide the league's fate on May 4, utilising the delay to seek more clarity from the Belgian government as to a possible easing of the current lockdown measures.

Belgium's top-flight was the first major league in Europe to scrap the current season due to coronavirus earlier this month, with leaders Club Brugge declared champions.

On Monday, the Belgian Pro League said in a statement: "The clubs came together to discuss the repercussions of the coronavirus and were given detailed information about the extremely complex situation that the crisis has created.

"The majority of clubs agreed to postpone the vote to conclude the season."

The situation regarding the Belgian government's potential easing of restrictions is expected to become clearer by the end of this week.
