Belgian Prime Minister Charles Michel announced his resignation Tuesday, less than two weeks after his main coalition partner quit in a row over migration, leaving him leading a minority government.
Michel relaunched his government a week ago as a minority administration after the Flemish N-VA, the biggest party in his coalition, quit in a dispute over signing the UN migration pact.
The lawmakers had been demanding that he submit his new minority government to a confidence vote, but Michel had so far refused and a confrontation seemed likely this week.
"I have taken the decision to submit my resignation and it is my intention to go to see the king immediately," Michel told lawmakers after a debate in parliament, where he faced a possible no-confidence motion.
