Belfast woman wins £53,000 on horse racing bet

A Belfast woman won £53,000 after all five of her selected horses won.

The woman revealed she had only deposited £10 into her Paddy Power account yesterday morning to have a bet on the football this weekend, reports Belfast Live.

However, after placing her accumulator selections for the final day of the Premier League this Sunday, she decided on a whim to use the remaining £5 in her account to have a flutter on horse racing, on a day that turned out to be an absolute shocker for regular form followers.

The 25-year-old lady, who works in security, placed her £2.50 EW fivefold bet (total stake £5) at 8.50am yesterday (Friday, May 10) and by 3pm, she had pocketed a £53, 228.12 after backing runners at Market Rasen, Chester and Ascot.

She said: “I wouldn’t know one end of a horse to the other, but I knew Ascot was on so I went from there and literally just picked the names of horses I was drawn to.

“I didn’t know a thing until I went online this evening to see how they ran and saw my balance.

"I thought there had been a mistake so I logged out and logged back into my Paddy Power account again and saw it still there.

"I couldn’t believe it! I rang my Daddy. He couldn’t believe it either!"

The lucky punter backed Sha La La La Lee (13.50, Chester), Final Song (14.00, Ascot), Forest Ranger (14.25, Chester), Kesia (14.35 Ascot) and the aptly named Safe Home (14.45, Market Rasen) who made sure her bet struck gold.

A Paddy Power spokesman said: “It was a mud bath at the track and a bloodbath for punters. But one man’s misery is another man’s fortune, or woman’s in this case, so hearing news of her win definitely gave us that Friday feeling."
