A Belfast woman's tweet about Crunchie bars has sparked debate on social media today.
Cliona McCarney, 26 and from Belfast, drew attention on Twitter after declaring that she had never tried a Crunchie bar until yesterday.
The tweet attracted disbelief from many - and ended up with her going on BBC Radio 5 Live to explain.
Speaking to Emma Barnett this morning, Cliona said: "I have got a lot of messages over the last 12 hours with people in varying degrees of disbelief!"
Emma Barnett said that she couldn't believe Cliona had made it 26 years without trying the chocolate, to which Cliona replied: "I used to actually actively avoid Crunchies my whole life - it was the chocolate bar I'd always swap with friends for something else!
"But I've now joined the ranks of Crunchie lovers as of now."
Cliona had ended 26 years of a Crunchie-less life yesterday afternoon - and the reason why may surprise you.
Cliona has none other than the late John Hume to thank for bringing her to finally try a Crunchie - when she found out it was one of his favourite chocolate bars.
"After his passing, people on Twitter were sharing all sorts of stories about him, and one that came up again and again was his sweet tooth" she explained.
"His son delivered a eulogy - a beautiful eulogy - about his father and talked about how constituents would come to visit him and sneak him a chocolate bar because he wasn't allowed to have many of them!
"His son said, 'you know, my father was a highly intelligent man but he could never quite understand that just because a Crunchie was full of air didn't mean it wasn't as bad for you!
"So after that we were all talking about the Crunchie bar and I thought, 'well, John Hume has never led me astray so far' so I went and got my first one - and it was wonderful!"
Speaking to Belfast Live later, Cliona said of the attention that her tweet had garnered: "I think the news is so horrible at the moment, people want something light to talk about!
"Sometimes it's the things you don't expect that get so much attention!"
Cliona added: "It was so nice that it was linked to John as well, because so many of the stories have been so serious, but this was just a lovely story about what he was like as an everyday man."
The debate drew more admissions from listeners, such as one man who had never had tea or coffee, and another who was in his fifties and had never had a baked potato.
